Played out in sound it appears on the music sheet, the sequences rise and fall and suggest shape and form, interwine in progression and build towards an architectonic whole. The Art Students League where Kenneth Cooper performed at the opening and Stellenbosch University brought this series international acclaim. When these prints were shown at the Dome Gallery in New York 1988, Art in America's Lawrence Campbell noted that this is not the first time that artists have sought to find direct correspondence between art and music and he saw the works as beautiful "distant cousins of Klee, Kandinsky and Hartung".

Performing these pieces on the piano has led me to a greater understanding of how to clarify linear counterpoint on the piano. The most important aid in hearing the individual strands without over-voicing lines (that is, without "bringing out the melody") lies in the perception of the lengths of notes--the note-values. On the piano, notes of different lengths are created through a hierarchy of tonal values, where successively longer durations need successively more resonance: the voice-leading becomes clear when the tail ends of notes can be heard.
